I purchased the Cannon 580 flash recently to use with my Canon XSI camera. I am new to dslr photography and found the flash user friendly and took several hundred flash pictures at a wedding using rechargeable batteries and did not experience any problem what so ever with the flash and did not have to change batteries at all and believe that there was enough to shoot several hundred more withe the same batteries before having to change them.
