1. Faster recycle than 580 ex
2. The new clamp (instead of the screw) is better, faster, sturdier.
3. The flash is slightly more powerful.
4. The old tricky battery door is replaced with a good one.
This is worth the upgrade for sure. If you have a new generation camera (5dii, 50d, etc.) it is even more of a no-brainer.
