This is a good flash that should be in everyone's bag. Sure people will tell you to save money and just get the 430 but if you understand how to use a flash you will appreciate the 580 ability to rotate 180 deg counter and clockwise. That in itself makes the price worth it.
Save yourself some money and wait for the spring/winter instant rebates. Canon does this every year so if you miss out just wait a few more months.
